Curaçao Carnival 2027 — Dates & Events

Curaçao's adult Carnival Queen, Prins and Pancho are crowned in one evening at WTC Curaçao (World Trade Center), the traditional venue confirmed by Curaçao Chronicle for the 2026 pageant. The teen and children's elections are held separately in the same early-January window. Judged competition with staged performances, costumed rounds and the sashing that officially opens the royalty side of the season. Ticketed venue event; 2026 pattern places this in the first weekend of the season, so the 2027 back-calc lands on the season-opening weekend.

Curaçao's flagship music competition — a five-night contest, run by FDKK, where local composers premiere new tumba songs. The winning song becomes the official 'road march' of that year's Carnival parades. 2026 held the youth finals on January 17 and the adult competition Jan 26–30; the 2027 dates back-calculated from the Rei Momo offset land the adult final around January 22. One of Curaçao's most unusual Carnival traditions — a Sunday-afternoon parade led by decorated horses ridden through Willemstad by costumed riders. Smaller and quieter than the human parades, but photogenic and beloved by locals as a distinctly Curaçaoan touch. 2026 held it on February 1; the 2027 back-calc from the Rei Momo offset places it around January 24. Curaçao's family Sunday — schoolchildren and youth groups march through Willemstad in the afternoon (2026 ran 2 PM to 7 PM), with smaller floats and choreographed routines paced for kids. Consistently one of the most heavily-attended parades of the season because whole families turn out for their children. Free to watch; the route matches the Gran Marcha corridor two weeks later.

The Friday-evening kickoff to parade week — teen dance troupes and school groups walk the Willemstad route with illuminated costumes and after-dark energy that reads more like a warm-up party than a competitive parade. 2026 ran 6 PM to 11 PM. Free to watch; the route is Willemstad's usual carnival corridor. Distinct from the Aruba/Bonaire seniors-and-teens combined format — Curaçao runs teens separately.

The Saturday parade dedicated to Bandabou, Curaçao's western communities — Barber, Tera Kòrá, Soto and the villages beyond Willemstad's city limits. It's an entirely separate parade from Gran Marcha, held the day before, and it's where you see the neighborhood pride that doesn't fit into the capital's headline procession. 2026 ran 3 PM to 8 PM. Free to watch; smaller crowds than downtown but a more community-rooted vibe.

The children and teen groups get their own farewell — Monday afternoon, between Gran Marcha (Sunday) and Marcha di Despedida (Fat Tuesday). Same route as the Sunday and Friday parades, but this one is specifically for the youth troupes to walk off the season together. 2026 ran 2 PM to 8 PM. Free to watch; family-friendly and typically less packed than the weekend headlines.

The closing Tuesday-night parade of Curaçao's Carnival: shorter and more intimate than Gran Marcha, ending with the ceremonial burning of King Momito shortly before midnight — the transition into Ash Wednesday and Lent.
