Aruba Carnival 2027 — Dates & Events

The parade that officially opens Aruba's Carnival season — a torch-lit march through Oranjestad that runs from about 8 PM until 3 AM.

The 2026 edition (Carnaval 72) opened on Saturday January 3 with what SMAC described as a record-breaking turnout. The pattern is the first Saturday of January, which for 2027 lands on January 2.

Free to watch along the L.G. Smith Boulevard route; wear neon or reflective clothing to fit the after-dark aesthetic.

SMAC crowns Aruba's teen (Hubenil) and adult Carnival queens on the same night — a two-tier pageant with staged performances, costumed rounds and judges' scoring across both categories. 2026 held it on Saturday January 10 as the first big ticketed event after Torch Parade. The 2027 date back-calculates to Saturday January 9. Ticketed venue event; the 2026 edition was held at Carnival Village in San Nicolas as part of a Carnaval-72-specific concentration, so venue is not assumed for 2027 pending SMAC's announcement.

The children's counterpart to the adult and teen queen elections — held the next day (Sunday afternoon in 2026). Same judged-pageant format, sized for a family audience: shorter runtime, brighter energy and less late-night drama than the Saturday adult night. 2026 was Sunday January 11; the 2027 date back-calculates to Sunday January 10. The music competition that picks Aruba's road march for the year — separate from Curaçao's Tumba Festival, with the caiso and soca genres judged in parallel finals. Preliminary rounds run for two nights before finals; 2026 held the finals on Saturday January 31 at Carnival Village in San Nicolas. The winning soca and winning caiso songs both play through Grand Parade weekend. Ticketed venue event; the 2027 date back-calculates to Saturday January 23 (17 days before Rei Momo), venue pending SMAC's schedule.

Aruba's night-parade centerpiece in Oranjestad — every float and costume is illuminated, and the boulevard route lights up in colour blocks as groups pass. The visual signature of the season and one of the most photographed nights on the SMAC calendar. Starts at 8 PM. 2026 was Saturday February 7; the 2027 back-calc (10 days before Rei Momo) puts it on Saturday January 30. Free to watch; arrive early for a spot on the boulevard.

The San Nicolas counterpart to the Oranjestad Lighting Parade, held a few nights later on a Thursday — same illuminated-costume format but on San Nicolas Main Street, which is narrower than the Oranjestad boulevard and creates a more crowd-close viewing experience. 2026 ran 8 PM to 2 AM. 2027 back-calc (5 days before Rei Momo, Thursday) puts it on Thursday February 4. Free to watch; the after-parade Zone Libre street party in San Nicolas typically continues past the official end time.

The pre-dawn opening of Aruba's Carnival Monday. Revellers gather in downtown Oranjestad from around 4 AM, dressed in old clothes, covered in paint and powder, dancing behind trucks blasting soca and roadmarch. Free to attend.

The Sunday marquee event of Aruba's Carnival — the largest and most-photographed parade of the season. Route runs through downtown Oranjestad with dozens of costumed groups, roadmarch trucks and steelbands. Free to watch.

Aruba's official Carnival public holiday. Full-day festivities across San Nicolas and Oranjestad, with schools and most businesses closed. The date is fixed to the Christian calendar: always the Monday before Ash Wednesday.

The symbolic closing of Aruba's Carnival: a straw-and-fabric effigy of Rey Momo (King of Carnival) is burned just before midnight on Fat Tuesday, marking the transition into Lent. Traditionally held on the beach or in a central square.
