KPSM Warns Public About Fake Traffic Fine Text Messages

The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) is warning residents about a fraudulent message currently circulating that falsely claims to be from the Traffic Police regarding an unpaid traffic fine. The scam involves a deceptive communication designed to mislead recipients into believing they owe an outstanding fine. KPSM has made clear that the message does not originate from the police department and is entirely fabricated. Residents are urged to treat any such messages with suspicion and to avoid clicking links or providing personal or financial information in response. This type of phishing-style scam, which impersonates law enforcement to create urgency and fear, is a growing concern across the Caribbean region. KPSM has not yet confirmed how widely the message has spread or through which platforms it is being circulated. The public is encouraged to report suspicious messages to local authorities.
