On October 4, 2026, Wendrick Cicilia officially assumed leadership of the AVP (Aruban People's Party) during the party's congress. He took over the role from Mike Eman, who had led the party for 25 years. Cicilia accepted the responsibility with expressed gratitude and a stated commitment to the party and its future. The transition marks a significant generational shift in one of Aruba's most established political parties. The AVP has historically been a dominant force in Aruban politics, making this leadership change a notable moment for the island's political landscape. Cicilia's assumption of the role signals a new chapter for the party as it looks ahead to future electoral contests.

Mike Eman, the longtime leader of Aruba's AVP (Aruban People's Party), formally stepped down from his role as party leader in an emotionally charged farewell speech. Eman, who has been one of Aruba's most prominent political figures and has served multiple terms as Prime Minister, framed his departure as a deliberate and responsible handover to the next generation of leadership. His speech was described as deeply personal, filled with historical reflection, personal memories, and visible emotion. Eman emphasized that stepping aside is not an ending but a responsibility — ensuring the party and its future are entrusted to younger leaders who can carry its mission forward. The transition marks a significant moment in Aruban politics, as AVP has been a dominant force on the island for decades. No immediate successor was named in the available excerpt, but the announcement signals a formal leadership transition within one of Aruba's most established political parties.
