The deaths took place across three districts in Ondo State, located in southwestern Nigeria. The toxic beverage is a locally brewed concoction reportedly known as 'Monkey Tail.' Methanol, a highly toxic industrial alcohol, can cause blindness, organ failure, and death even when consumed in small quantities. During the past week, the Curaçao Police Corps conducted multiple traffic control operations across various districts on the island. Prosecutors in Curaçao have filed sentencing demands against four defendants charged with smuggling drugs concealed inside speakers. The heaviest sentence — seven years in prison — was requested for Raynus M. (55), a Curaçao-born man described as the ringleader of the operation. Dutch national Yfke (59) faces a demand of 50 months, while fellow Dutch national Daniel v. H. (41) faces 40 months, and a fourth defendant faces 30 months. According to prosecutors, the Curaçao-born suspect recruited Dutch nationals by offering them vacation trips to the island, during which they were used as couriers to transport the drug-laden packages. The speakers containing the narcotics were used to conceal the contraband during transport. The case highlights the continued use of so-called 'drug mules' recruited through social enticement on trafficking routes between the Caribbean and the Netherlands.
