Panama disease has been wreaking havoc on banana plantations across Latin America and the Caribbean, wiping out crops with no known cure. Venezuela, which shares close geographic and trade proximity with Curaçao, has been identified as a source of risk for introducing the disease to the island. The ban is effective immediately and applies to all banana plant material, including seedlings, cuttings, and related agricultural products.
