Australian Mother of Four Delivers Extremely Rare Identical Quadruplets

A 34-year-old Australian woman has given birth to four identical quadruplets, a feat believed to be a first in Australian medical history. The four girls were delivered via cesarean section on July 14. What makes the case exceptionally rare is that the pregnancy occurred naturally, without the use of fertility treatments. Identical quadruplets — meaning all four babies developed from a single fertilized egg — are extraordinarily uncommon, with odds estimated at roughly one in 11 to 15 million pregnancies. The mother was already a parent to four children prior to this birth, making her a mother of eight. Medical professionals and researchers consider the case a landmark event, as spontaneous identical quadruplet pregnancies are virtually unheard of in modern obstetric records.
