Aruba Mourns the Passing of Emma P. Jansen-Geerman

The award recognized BNA's Hofi Joy project, which earned recognition among library institutions across the Caribbean region. Aruban Prime Minister Mike Eman received the leadership of the Fundacion Fiestas Patrias Peruanos na Aruba at an official meeting. The delegation was led by President Guillermo Salinas and Vice-President Livany Lujan. The discussion centered on the foundation's upcoming celebrations of Peruvian national holidays, known as Fiestas Patrias. A total of 198 Aruban students departed for the Netherlands on Wednesday to pursue higher education, marking an increase in the number of so-called 'beursalen' — scholarship students funded to study abroad. Although the official term 'beursalen' has largely fallen out of use in recent years, the students traveling to the Netherlands have retained the nickname. The rise in numbers signals growing demand for higher education opportunities that are not available locally on the island. Studying in the Netherlands is a common pathway for Aruban students seeking university-level degrees, as Aruba's own higher education infrastructure is limited. The departure of nearly 200 students at once is a notable annual event for the island's academic and family communities.
